Updated: Jan 14

A workshop about bacteria as agents in plant growth and control of phytoparasitic nematodes is taking place on January 21, 2025 in Alcobaça (Portugal).

Extreme weather events affect ecosystems and threaten food production, and facilitate the presence of pests. Additionally, reducing synthetic chemical pesticides, along with other environmentally friendly approaches, is crucial for more sustainable agriculture.

Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are responsible for extensive damage to a wide range of economically important crops. In the SIRAM project, bacteria play a fundamental role as agents that promote plant growth, improving their resistance, or acting as biological control agents, such as natural bionematicides.

This workshop will publicize the SIRAM project and its results in Portugal. The project aims for a comprehensive integration and implementation of sustainable solutions for regenerative agriculture in different areas of the Mediterranean.
